A low-slope roof embodies minimal incline, lacking steepness and is defined by the Building Code. As defined, any roof having a slope below 2:12 falls into the low-slope category. To fortify these roofs against water damage, precisely designed protective systems are essential.
Included in this category are thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO), ethylene propylene diene terpolymer (EPDM), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), modified bitumen, and liquid applied coatings.

Final Inspection/ Claim Closing
STEP 1: QUALITY ROOF INSPECTION
- The first step in the insurance process is to perform a Quality Roofing System Inspection. Here, we will closely inspect the home and the roofing system, including all of its components and accessories, for deficiencies and damages.
- Damages and failures of the system will be documented, photographed, and shared with you, the homeowner, so that you can make a better, more informed decision, about your home’s repairs.
STEP 2: CONTACTING YOUR INSURANCE PROVIDER
- If the Roofing system has qualifying damages, such as hail impacts, wind damages, or has been compromised by other storm related damage- your Insurance Provider will need to be contacted and a Claim will need to be created to continue with the restoration process.
- Remember, Insurance carriers are prohibited by law, from raising your rates due to filing a claim, caused by and “Act of God”.
STEP 3: ADJUSTERS APPOINTMENT
- After the claim has been filed, your Insurance Provider will assign an Insurance Adjuster to inspect your property for the reported damages.
- Not all Insurance Adjusters are qualified construction experts (more like “bean counters”) for roofing system components.
- It is very important to have a Knowledgeable, Reputable, and Professional Roofing Contractor present during this inspection, as 70% of all filed claims are greatly underpaid by Insurance Carriers at the initial approval of the claim.
STEP 4: DOCUMENTATION REVIEW WITH CLIENT
- After the claim has been approved by your Insurance Provider, you will be issued a “Loss Summary” by the assigned Adjuster. This document contains important information about material types and quantities present on your home, at the time of the Inspection.
- This summary should include the listing of ALL items damaged, and necessary for the correct and proper repair of your property.
- Your Restoration Professional will review these documents with you, and help you understand your claim in its entirety.
- During this in person review, you and your Restoration Professional will create a plan for conducting your property restoration.
STEP 5: PRE-RESTORATION CONSULTATION
- Prior to the reconstruction of your damaged property, your Restoration Professional will assist you in selecting the BEST components for you roofing system, and help map out the best schedule for this restoration, to better fit your needs and your schedule.
STEP 6: REBUILDING YOUR HOME
- After you and your Restoration Professional have decided on material types and color selections, the restoration of your property will be conducted.
- After removing the existing damaged components, your property will be thoroughly inspected again for any unseen or hidden damages that may need to be addressed with the Insurance Carrier.
- If no such issues arise, your property will be restored to a Pre- Loss Condition by our expert construction professionals.
- This reconstruction process typically takes about a day or two for most average sized homes.
STEP 7: FINAL INSPECTION AND CLOSING THE CLAIM
- After the construction is completed and all left-over construction debris and materials have been removed from the property, your Restoration Professional will conduct a Final Construction Walk Through with you, to better ensure that all items and issues have been resolved; ensuring that you are satisfied with the end result, and that your property is completely restored to Like New condition.
- Once the Final Construction Walk Through is complete, and the Final Walkthrough Approval has been issued by you, the homeowner- your Restoration Professional will send photos and documents to your Insurance Provider, detailing the completed construction, so that your claim file can be closed by your Insurance Provider.

Roofing systems can be made with many different types of materials; the most common include asphalt shingles, metal/ steel panels, clay or concrete tile, and even repurposed rubberized shingle products. Each material has a different “expected age of life” and they can vary between 15 to 45 years. Most asphalt shingle roofing systems should last between 12-15 years in normal Texas weather conditions. Most metal roofing systems can last up to 25-30 years in normal Texas weather conditions.
The most common types of damage to roofing systems are damage related to weather events. High winds and hail storms cause lots of different types of material damages to all kinds of roofing systems. If you suspect that you have had storm related roof damage, it is always advisable to have a qualified roofing contractor inspect the roofing system for damages, so they can make the most appropriate repair recommendation.
Depending on the type of roofing system installed, and the design of the roof architecture, roofing installations can vary between $4.50 per ft2 and $12.00 per ft2 of the roof’s surface area. If the roofing system has damage related to storm events, the cost of repairs or replacements may be covered under most Homeowners Insurance policies. Selecting a roofing contractor that has Interest Free Financing options, that can make Flexible Payment Arrangements- can help Texas homeowners with these roof repair and replacement costs.
Selecting a roofing contractor has never been easier for Homeowners in Texas! Searching through the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas’s Member Directory will show you which local roofing contractors have obtained a high level of manufacturer’s certification and industry accreditation. The Roofing Contractors Association of Texas is the only roofing association in Texas that is recognized and referenced by the Texas Department of Insurance. https://web.rcat.net/search
Most roofing warranties are going to come in two forms- the Manufacturer’s Material Warranty, and the actual Roofing Contractor’s Labor and Installation Warranty. Many roofing system manufacturers offer specialized certifications to roofing contractors, which allow those contractors to then offer Texas Homeowners with higher levels of Material and Labor Warranties. Manufacturer Material Warranties only cover issues with the actual building materials, and that arise because of the manufacturing process. These warranties typically last about 15-30 years, and most asphalt shingle manufacturer warranties lose 50% of their coverage value at 10 years of age. Labor and Installation Warranties offered by contractors cover the actual installation and workmanship performed on the project and will include coverages for issues that arise from the actual work performed. The length of these workmanship warranties can vary between 5-10 years depending on the individual Contractor, while Manufacturer Certified Contractors can have the ability to offer Extended Labor Warranties that range between 20 to 30 years in some cases.
